The source region of Yangtze River is the unique precious natural resource and the head source of the first drop of water of the Yangtze River. The global warming trend has intensified the glacier degradation of this area and is increasingly worsening the conservation of the ecology area in the natural reserve. It is of great significance for the ecological protection whether in terms of our country or in the world. The “Dispute of the Source Region of the Yangtze River” written by the investigative reporter Chen Jie in September 2016 was the first exposure of the incident of the deglaciation and the protection disputes of the two places of the source region of the Yangtze River. Qinghai Province made an explanation to the State Council concerning this report. The Central Committee is also coordinating the cooperation between Qinghai and Tibet so as to substantially promote the conservation of the source region of the Yangtze River. The Sanjiangyuan (Three River Source Region) National Park planning shall be adjusted and the state funds will be guaranteed to cover the source region of the Yangtze River and the tourism development there shall be halted.

After the NPC&CPPCC in 2017, Ando County stopped all development according to the requirements of the autonomous region, by perfecting the laws and regulations, and the full closed management to the source region of the Yangtze River. In addition, the comprehensive conservation was carried out. Other than the specific actions of Maqu Township, Tibet Autonomous Region has also applied project protection approval to the state. In the future, the herdsmen of the source region of the Yangtze River will move out to reduce human activities. That is to say, at present, the conservation of the source region of the Yangtze River has made substantial advancement.

On July 16, 2017, Chen Jie and his colleagues made a further report on the actual reserve incorporation of the source region of the Yangtze River titled The Herdsmen at the Source Region of the Yangtze River Hold Fast, which also attracted international attention. The report played a substantial role in promoting the protection of the source region of the Yangtze River. Tibet Autonomous Region commented, “The conservation of the source region of the Yangtze River should thank for the objective and fair report of The Beijing News. Otherwise, the ecological crisis of the source region of the Yangtze River would have been kept from the outside world.” 
Besides, as early as in 2016, it was learned that the Tongtian River reach in the upper reaches of the source region of the three rivers in Qinghai Province had dozens of various kinds mining spots, resulting in the ecological deterioration due to the out of time restoration. In August 2017, Chen Jie invited a number of experts and scholars to the mining area, and in August 30, he published the report of Wounds Unhealed at the Source Region of the Three Rivers, Illegal Mining Spots Yet to be Restored.

On the day of the release of the report, the 7th Environmental Protection Inspector Team of the Central Committee began to investigate the illegal mining spots of the source region of the three rivers; the Yushu Prefecture Party Committee of Qinghai Province decided after special meeting discussion on the day of the release of the report to complete the preliminary work of filling and levelling of the three pits disclosed in the report before the end of September, and actively communicated with the Department of Land and Resources for the written reply of the comprehensive treatment scheme as soon as possible; Director Li Xiaonan of the Management Office of Sanjiangyuan National Park invited reporters to interview for the forthcoming restoration of the 48 retired mines at the source region of the three rivers; the China Biodiversity Conservation and Green Development Foundation which had initiated litigation to the Tengger Desert pollution incident said, after reading the report, that they would file the litigation to the ecological restoration of the mine spots at the source region of the three rivers for public interest.
